Objectives of the Program: At the completion of his/her Endocrine Surgery Fellowship training, the fellow should be able to apply an integrated multidisciplinary approach, including surgical expertise, to patients with common and complicated endocrine surgical problems. To take advantage of the multidisciplinary expertise often required in the overall management of endocrine surgical patients, we have established clinical rotations in radiology for ultrasonography and computed tomography, nuclear medicine to encompass parathyroid and thyroid imaging and therapeutic 131I administration, pathology and cytology, and the various subspecialties of medical endocrinology. The endocrine fellow would participate and be responsible for educational conferences and intraoperative teaching, as well as stimulate opportunities for clinical and collaborative translational research.
Highlights of the Fellowship: The endocrine surgery fellowship is a comprehensive and integrated program with 8 weeks working directly with clinical endocrinologists, 3 days each with endocrine pathologists and nuclear medicine physicians, 1 week in medical oncology, and 2 days at the annual Endocrine Surgery University. The remaining 9 months are devoted to operative and perioperative management. The Mayo Clinic caseload is very active as indicated by about 300 parathyroid, 120 adrenals, 400 thyroidectomy, 15 paragangliomas, and 20 insulinoma cases per year. Trainees will also have an opportunity to participate in robotic surgery.
International Medical Graduates: International Medical Graduates will be considered with ECFMG Certification.
J-1 Visas are accepted.
Special Considerations: There is an opportunity for moonlighting.
