Objectives of the Program: Our objective is to train future leaders in the field of endocrine surgery with surgical expertise, clinical knowledge and a spirit of investigation. These principles will be taught in a multidisciplinary university setting.
Highlights of the Fellowship: We have a busy clinical practice with 5 full-time endocrine surgeons (Dr. Shelby Holt, Dr. Fiemu Nwariaku, Dr. Jennifer Rabaglia, Dr. Sarah Oltmann, Dr. Alan Dackiw) performing over 700 endocrine operations a year and growing. We anticipate fellows to complete between 300-350 cases with extensive exposure in parathyroidectomy (~150, including minimally invasive approaches and re-operative surgery), thyroidectomy for both benign and malignant disease, (~150), central and lateral neck dissections (~25), and adrenalectomy (~25). In addition, fellows will develop expertise in neck ultrasound and recurrent laryngeal nerve monitoring. The fellow will be engaged in the multidisciplinary care of the patient with endocrine disease and will have the opportunity to work with experts in endocrine pathology, nuclear imaging, and medical endocrinology. We have an active multidisciplinary clinic and run a bi-monthly multidisciplinary conference and tumor board and adrenal conference. An endocrine teaching conference is also held weekly.
